Dealing With Racism On Bible Q-n-A

During last week's broadcast I received a disturbing email. Some might not find it disturbing, but I do. Maybe because I am in a so-called "interracial" marriage. Anyone that knows me knows that my wife, Mary, is Indian. She is a very beautiful shade of dark brown. We have a very beautiful daughter that is the most perfect shade of olive brown. So, yes, when I learn of people propagating "racism," which is really colorism, it disturbs me. The Bible says that we are all made from one blood (Acts 17:26). According to this, there is no such thing as different "races" of people. We are all of the same blood. How foolish it is to judge one man of greater worth or ability because he has more or less melanin in in his skin. Absurd!

The email I received said that there is a well known "preacher," I won't name who because I have not confirmed the charge, that regularly uses "racial" slurs and says that blacks and whites should not worship together. Well, anyone with that kind of attitude doesn't need to worry about who they worship with because their devotions aren't making it up to the Father anyway.

In the church of Christ, we don't look at the color of a man! Because God doesn't look at the color of a man, but at the heart (1 Sam. 16:7). The congregations at Danville and Martinsville are "colorful" congregations. At Danville we have all sorts of shades, from lily white to very dark. It makes for a beautiful mix of people!

There is a song that I like named "Colored People." One line that I particularly like says, "We're colored people and they call us the human race." It goes on, "A piece of canvas is only the beginning, for it takes on character with every loving stroke; this thing of beauty is the passion of an Artist's heart. By God's design, we are a skin kaleidoscope." I like that!

Racism is the height of ignorance and has no place in the realm of religion. If I find that this so-called preacher is promoting racism then he will have to answer for it. I will put his picture, address and office hours on my web sites and TV program for all to see. It will be just one more example of how denominationalism destroys the pure and peaceful religion of Jesus Christ.

Be sure to tune-in and call-in tonight! I am looking forward to getting your feedback on this crucial issue.

Franklin I am sorry I have not gotten back to you sooner but I have been out of town for a funeral. Preacher Grubbs did stand against interracial marriages and he used scripture found in the book of Nehemiah 13. The children of Israel were told not to mix with other nations in the book of Deuteronomy 7:3-4. In the book of Nehemiah in chapter 13 the Israelites had married the women that were of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab. Their offspring could not even speak in the Jews language but they had adopted the language of the Ammonites and the Moabites; two nations that the Lord forbid in the congregation of Israel. What does that mean to us today? We are told by the Apostle Paul in II Corinthians 6:14-18 not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. Saved people should not married or even date unsaved people. Does this mean a saved person can not marry another person outside of their nationality? I do not believe you can use this to prove that in the sight of God interracial marriage is wrong but you have to admit interracial marriages bring confusion and God is not the author of confusion. Today we are seeing the children of interracial marriages suffer. Some have testified they are not accepted by either race. This is sad, the children suffer because of the choices made by the parents. There are even special groups that have been organized to help these children deal with this in their lives. I am not a racist nor have I ever been one but the confusion this brings is one that is bringing pain to innocent children. I am not for this at all. I hope I have helped you in this most delicate of situations. Tell your sister to make sure she is saved and in the will of God; that is the most important thing she could ever do; and God will take care of the rest.

    Brother Duane

This is a copy of the email Duane King of Piedmont baptist same person the program was about sent me about interacial marriage. Sounds like he may be a racist time to post his email and address and number. He is saying Norm should not be married to his wife and giving scripture

I received some requests for the DVD from people who were struggling with racism in their own families, so I hope that helped them. Also, it demonstrates that we are going to deal with any error according to God's word. Racism is of the devil and those who are taken up with it are of the devil. Jesus said that you are of the devil when you act like the devil (Jn. 8:44).

Well that is encouraging that the DVD was distributed and that some people got some help. After all helping the hurting or confused is what it is all about anyway. Just thought it was wrong to post the mans information and to label him a racist. I for one know Mr. King does have african american attendees at his church because he picks up my aunt from a nursing home and brings her every service. My wife is caucasian and I dont think I am living in sin and support your stance but not your methods.
