Dear Norm,
I watched the debate the other night between Jason and Jeff Black and the other gentleman, and I've got to say that I was not a bit surprised by the tactics Jason employed.
He asked the men to come on to discuss the doctrine of justification by faith, and the first moment he had to debate, he didn't discuss the Church of Christ position, but launched right into his diatribe as to why the Presbyterian position is wrong.
I felt like his attack was a completely inappropriate way for him to convince people of the C of C position. And while it made for entertaining TV, it didn't convince this lifelong Presbyterian of anything except that the Church of Christ (as represented that night by Jason) has a huge inferiority complex. Why else would he lash out the way he did?
It was bad form, I thought. If you guys want to convince people that your position is correct, then state your position and defend it. Don't start out by putting your guests on the defensive. And you wonder why you have to go outside the viewing community to find people willing to come on and debate?
Sincerely,
Nathan Fleming

Nathan,
I appreciate your comment but I must confess that I have not yet seen the debate. I do not have cable where I live and so I didn't get to watch it. I have heard from others that Jason did a great job of exposing the unscriptural position held by the Presbyterian. Though I cannot really comment on the debate itself I can say that from my personal experience with Jason I am more inclined to think that he did effectively present the truth of the matter and expose his opponent as a false teacher.
Let me also say that there is no such thing as a "Church of Christ position" on any matter. The church of Christ holds to the biblical position on any given issue. There is no such thing as "church of Christ doctrine" only biblical doctrine. What makes us the church of Christ is that we base our work and worship on the word of God and not man made doctrines.
Again, I didn't see the debate but I can say that whatever came across to you as an "inferiority complex" would have had to be a misconception. How could there be any inferiority on the part of the truth of God's of word and His church? The whole point of the book of Revelation is that no matter how many are aligned against us, we will win the victory over error. Truth will win out in the end! There is certainly no sense of inferiority in that biblical fact.
Thanks for your comment,
Norm
